The wording "The Race Is ON" has had real meaning for the Club lately! It is interesting to watch the PREP of the various members as they ready themselves for the competition. Buddy Hatch will have to do EVERYONE's boat bottom work if Mr. Roy comes out ahead in the next few races. They even picked on DeAnn to help with the final work to get Goding's boat ready - saw her up there in the work area with a roller applying the last of the "slick'em" to the boat bottom. More surprising then was seeing that boat IN THE WATER that afternoon. They said the stuff dried 'real fast' - it must!
The Club was rather quiet considering it was a Memorial Day Weekend Holiday. That just means that several of the club members actually took the time to check the Weather Channel and find out that winds were forecasted to be 3 or 4 knots or otherwise CALM. Yep, this was for the entire time. Buddy Hatch did a write-up and another club member took photos of the GRAND CUP racing so you'll want to be sure to check those out here on the website.
The Lake managed to hold true to the custom for the Holiday...it was a 'blender mix' thanks to those little Cigarette boats, the Bass Fishermen and the kids on those skidoos! If you did manage to get a sail going, those motored guys would rumble past you and knock the wind right out of the sails. It was more of a SWIM type of weekend for the most part.
The newest members braved the warm weather, camped and sailed with Gracie, their little daughter. Glad you could have some time at the lake - Francie and Chad.
This weekend is the Bartlett Regatta, it's a fund raiser event and the Club had four or five of our sailors head that way. I'm sure Buddy Hatch or Kathie Brown will fill us in on all the details later.
Mid afternoon on Sunday - the Lances decided to head on home after camping for 5 days with only one moderate sail time out of the lot. Laura and John decided to 'book it' and make the Holiday a relaxing one at HOME catching up on laundry and mentally preparing for the next day's work. Jack didn't have a comment...he is happy anywhere!
Even Chad & Francie decided to pack up camp and head for the house since Monday weather was supposed to bring rain. Packing up a 'wet' camp is NO FUN.
The impromptu Potluck for the evening got a lot smaller because of those leaving but it didn't dampen the enthusiasm of those with an appetite! B.J. brought the type of casserole that she made when she was raising & feeding her 4 hungry boys AND it was still a winner. Kitty brought an Apricot Cake that was devoured and then the bunch of them finished off the evening playing a game called Sequence. Its an interesting and fun game!
Mark Gardner reminds everyone to check the calendars for info on the races, meetings and various Club activities. What the heck is a Mud Flats Raft-UP? Be sure to check that one out!
Reminder to the Membership: this Newsletter is not intended as a blog but rather a note of information of what's happening in and around, to and for the Club... it needs your participation. In the future there will be more notes about the BOG meetings and recent Board decisions or activities. You may email Bob Moore-Web Master or email Diana Lance, who has been writing for the Scuttlebutt. Let them know what types of information would be pertinent for you in the website or the Newsletter OR Provide some to share... the Club is about it's MEMBERS.
Speaking of which: the Club continues to have Earl Rose and Virginia Buoen on our minds and in our Prayers. Don says Virginia is on crutches and getting 'around' the place. Marilyn notes that Earl is still of good humor...he keeps those nurses hopping.
