Scuttlebutt January 2010

Psst….                  Jan/Feb 2010

This is the latest SCUTTLEBUTT from Grand Lake Sailing Club

The Holidays whipped by and presto it was New Year’s Day 2010. Although the temperatures on the 1st weren’t quite as ghastly as they were going to be in the first week of January – it still took some brave SAILORS to take out those boats for ‘Bragging Rights!” The Gardners took the Cawthons & Dewey in their boat and Frank Beber took Don Davis & his friend. A nice potluck was held in the Clubhouse for about twenty-five members, family & friends.

THEN the Weatherman decided Oklahoma should SET new records for January and hauled down some sort of “Arctic Express” for all of us to enjoy! It sent me scrambling for another blanket to put on the bed and it’s been nice sitting under a ‘throw’ when watching telly.

GLSC has several members that ‘fessed UP their birth dates (NOooo, not their ages!) and one of them said she would furnish the CAKE if everyone wanted to meet at the Clubhouse for ‘Hamburgers.” Twenty people showed up to sing Happy Birthday to Elaine Gardner, Patsy Hagen and Stan Lance. The trick wasn’t getting to Grove, the ‘slippery’ part was getting down from the parking area into the Clubhouse. B.J. was wearing her ‘flat’ comfortable shoes but realized that was just what they were… FLAT, Smooth soled shoes. We were placing bets on which would make it to the clubhouse first – Dewey, B.J. or B.J. shoes! Burgers were cooked on the grill by a couple of Eskimos named Bob Moore & Phil Howard. The Commodore, Mark Gardner, said he watched as Bob handled stuff on that grill WITHOUT using any tools or gloves! Bob said, “He couldn’t feel his fingers anyway after the first 15 minutes!”

Mary set-up the accompaniments to the Hamburgs which were Kitty’s baked beans, B.J.’s Fixings Platter, several types of chips, Bread bagels with a dip, a Cheese-Rotel pot, celery w/cream cheese & nuts, green & black olives, Brie, shrimp & hot-pepper jelly, all washed down with tea, wines, and snow ‘iced’ Champagne. It was ALL GOOD. Robin & Tom’s Heather was excited about having CAKE to eat, so she was gathering up the plates & utensils as quick as a bunny! Kurt had to grab his glass and declare, “I’m not done!” Buddy & DeAnn Hatch were there. Think DeAnn just brings Buddy out occasionally to harass us. Kathy & Bruce Brown came over but left the ‘kids’ (dachshunds) at the house. It was just a really nice get-together at the Sail Club.

Just a note: Dillar Cove was totally iced over as was Lake Eucha and most of Grand!

There is a BOG Meeting (think they are planning a brunch before the meeting) for the 16th of January. Meeting starts at 10 a.m. til…..
