| The Pink Ribbon Regatta
has a decade old history at the Grand Lake Sailing Club. Started
in the mid-1990s, in memory of Carol Morton, an enthusiastic
Catalina 22 racer along with her husband, Bob Morton. Carol
succumbed to a fast growing breast cancer. In the year following Carol's death, the idea of establishing a regatta to promote Breast Cancer Awareness was promoted by Carol's friends and family. The early goal was to give support to uninsured, under-insured and low income individuals through the Freeman Foundation in Joplin, Mo. For a number of years, the Foundation administered the funds in Joplin. In the past few years, the focus has changed and, today, the funds provide support to The Christian Medical Center in Grove, Ok. The funds are now administered by the Integris Foundation, who receive referrals from The Christian Medical Center. Aid can be in the form of education, treatments, gas cards, clothing, wigs and any other need that may arise. The Pink Ribbon Regatta was renamed this year to reflect a new goal. Club members have expressed a desire to contribute in other ways to the fundraising efforts. Using the Bartlett Regatta as a model, there will be a Regatta party the weekend before the October 4th Regatta. Club members and guests are invited to attend the Sept 27th event. It is hoped that the Regatta Party someday will grow into a community-wide event.

Boat Auction ends proceeds to benefit Pink Ribbon Regatta!
A Chrysler 22 with trailer was donated to the club by Dennis Lamberd in July. The boat is being offered at silent auction and the proceeds will be given to the Pink Ribbon Regatta Fund to benefit The Christian Medical Center. The donations to The Christian Medical Center benefit those who need assistance to fight breast cancer. In the past, the funds have provided assistance for treatments, cost of travel and needed testing.
Bids on the Chrysler 22 ended at midnight, September 15, 2008. The winning bidder was Deanne Mayer. She is the daughter of club members, Mike & Celie Mayer. Deanne is moving the boat to Beaver Lake in Northwest Arkansas where she plans to teach her nieces and nephew how to sail. The winning bid was $1,500.00.
The boat auction was listed on craigslist, Tulsa and Fayetteville, and on the club's website. There were eight individual bids placed on the boat and lots of interest was generated by the listings.
Our thanks to Dennis and Arle Anne for their generous donation to our first Pink Ribbon Regatta. What a great way to start!
