Mast Raising Party

(Story and *photos* from Bob Moore)        3/16/09

Mr. Frank Beber was asked to replace the anemometer cable and VHF coax cables on “Bodacious” a Catalina 32 owned by Preston and Carolyn Pate. This project entailed raising the mast on Bodacious approximately 6-12 inches off of the mast step to fish new cables from the top of the mast into the cabin roof.

To accomplish this feat it was necessary to use two other Catalina 30’s to support “Bodacious” mast as it was slowly raised up using the winches on the other Catalinas.

All three boats (“Bodacious”, “Gold Nugget” owned by Bob Moore and “Rejoice” owned by Mark Garner) were rafted together and the careful and slow process of raising “Bodacious” mast began.

Even Though Bob and Mark were very apprehensive about this operation Dewey kept saying “no problem we used to do this all the time.” Of course it wasn’t his boat either.

Project was completed without mishap and “Gold Nugget” and “Rejoice” are hoping that “Bodacious” will return the favor with perhaps a fine meal on the waters of Grand Lake.
