Bartlett and Grand Cup

We had a great turn out for the Bartlett with 6 crews from GLSC competing for the best over all boat.

It was a close race for some boats, but Frank Beber and his crewmate Mark Garner did win the overall best boat.

Congratulations to Frank & Mark for winning the best overall at the Bartlett Regatta.

I will not mention any names but one boat from our club was so far behind in the Bartlett that when the race committee called the race that boat still had 1 full lap to go.

All were excited to better their chances for the Grand Cup the following weekend as there were a lot of crew changes and fine tuning of the boats plus plenty of practicing.

It turns out to be a very blustery weekend and most boats were sailing with reefed main sails or smaller jibs.  It was nip and tuck for the final race held that Sunday afternoon, but Roy Goding and Kurt Hagan in “Red Lion” won all of their races in their fleet.

Best overall boat honors went to Cortland Smith in “Blew Bayou” with his excellent crew.

It was a great weekend had by all.

There was a great steak dinner Saturday night with Chefs Bob Moore and Phil Howard doing the cooking plus all of the trimmings furnished and prepared by participating club members.

Sunday morning a super breakfast was served which included pancakes, sausage and bacon, and fresh fruit.

A special thanks to all of the volunteers that helped immensely with the preparation of both meals. To mention a few names for all of their hard work:  B.J Brady, Sharon Beber, Kitty Moore, Patsy Hagan, Lauri Cawthone, Marilyn Rose and Mary Howard. Hopefully with my advanced age I didn’t leave any one out !!

It couldn't have been posible to have such a sucessful race without the outstanding help  from Dewey Brady and Gary Daniels in placing the course and navigating the committee boat.

A VERY SPECIAL THANKS GOES TO BUDDY HATCH FOR ALL OF HIS FINE SUPPORT, COORDINATION AND PLANNING FOR THIS YEARLY EVENT.
