Footing preparation and concrete pours from some dedicated sailors of GLSC. The main participants were: Buddy Hatch, Frank Beber, Dewey Brady, Roy Goding, Mark Gardner, Bob Moore and of course our great caretaker Phil Howard. This accomplished some much needed concrete support work while the lake is low to protect the club's deck in time for this spring/summer's floods.
Thanks Guys, for your efforts to enhance our sailing club!
This note from Bob explains it in detail: (Notice the effort by these guys SAVED our club at least $4200. THKS. Ron)
The footings (a total of 6) holding up the supports for the deck has fallen in disrepair as shown in pictures 2 &3. Major erosion over a long period of time has undermined the original footings. Continual erosion can cause the main supports for the deck to eventually collapse. Presently the lake level is very low so now is the perfect time to complete this work before the spring rains and the eventual increase of the lake level.
Thanks to the great help of the mentioned volunteers and Buddy Hatch’s tools and equipment, the forms for the pour were completed over last Sunday and Monday. The pour was scheduled for Tuesday depending on weather. There was a break in the rain mid morning so the decision was made to go for it. Although it was very cold, wet and blustery the mighty volunteers did a great job. A total of 8 yards were poured under this inclement weather. The cement truck only had a 15 foot chute so the ingenuity of the volunteers was most helpful in making temporary chutes to get the concrete to the footings (see pictures).
There was about a half yard of concrete left over and that was put to good use to widen the narrow driveway to the boat ramp. The expertise of Bob Moore’s calculations and Frank Beber’s superb measuring calculated the yardage required to almost exactly the amount needed. Total bill for the concrete came to about $800.00 plus small change for the lumber.
To contract this job out would have cost the club a minimum of $5,000.00 so a big hand for all of the volunteers.
